Stay Safe Guides

The internet is central to daily life — and scammers know it.

Staying connected to family, managing your finances, reading the news, shopping online — the internet makes all of this easier and keeps you independent. But it also brings risk. Scammers specifically target older Australians because they know how much is at stake: savings built over a lifetime, and the trust we place in the people and institutions we deal with every day.

The most common scams our clients encounter include:

SafeHarbour Digital puts protections in place that specifically target the weaknesses these scams exploit — making it significantly harder for them to reach you in the first place. You keep doing everything you normally do online. We work quietly in the background to help reduce that risk while you do it.

If something has already happened — a suspicious call, a link you clicked, a virus, or money that went somewhere it shouldn't — you're not alone, and it's not too late. Four in ten older Australians have been through something similar. We can help.

What we do when we visit

We come to your home in person. Before we change anything on your computer, we sit down with you and have a conversation — because we want to understand how you use it and what matters to you. Then we get to work:

  1. 1 A security review to understand how you use your computer, identify risk areas, and check what software and browser plugins are installed — anything outdated or no longer needed gets removed
  2. 2 Update your computer and web browsers to the latest, most secure versions — older software is one of the most common ways scammers get in
  3. 3 Activate and configure security software, and make a number of targeted changes that significantly reduce the chance of a scam reaching you — without changing the way your computer looks or works
  4. 4 Walk you through exactly what we've done, answer any questions, and leave you a plain-language written summary of what's been set up — so you have it to refer back to whenever you need it

What happens after our visit

Once we've set everything up, we keep an eye on things remotely — so you don't have to worry about keeping your computer secure yourself.

Each month, we send you a plain-language report — and your nominated contact if you have one. It tells you what, if anything, was detected and what was done about it. There's no jargon — just a clear summary so you know your computer is being looked after.

Your privacy is paramount

We monitor the machine's security — not what you do on it.

We cannot see your browsing, your emails, your messages, or anything else you do day-to-day. The security tools we install watch for threats in the background — they don't watch you.

If you have a nominated contact — a family member or anyone else you choose — they receive the same monthly security summary that you do. Nothing more. They are not given any information about how you use your computer.

Arranging this yourself?

You don't need a family member involved. Many of our clients arrange and pay for the service themselves — and many tell us they didn't want to keep asking their children or friends for help with technology. That's exactly what we're here for. We work directly with you, at your pace, as many times as you need.

The monthly report goes to whoever you'd like — just you, or a family member or friend if you'd prefer a second pair of eyes. That's entirely your call, and you can change it any time.

Just give us a call to get started. No obligation, no pressure.

It's always your choice

This service exists to help you — not to take anything away from you. Your computer works exactly as it always has. You can visit any website, use any app, and do everything you normally do. You are free to end the service at any time — just call us, and we will reverse everything we have done and step away completely. You do not need permission from anyone else.
